Penetration testing and control validation — Purple Team
Security controls should be tested in practice within clearly defined boundaries. We test designated systems and, through Purple Team exercises, work with the SOC to verify detection and handling of simulated activity.
Service scope
Penetration testing
A penetration test examines an agreed application, service or infrastructure scope. Before work, we agree permitted activities, stop conditions and operational contacts. The report describes confirmed weaknesses, context and recommendations; retesting verifies selected fixes.
Rules and scenarios
We agree systems, methods, work windows, exclusions and how to respond to unintended test impact.
Technical examination
We assess selected applications or infrastructure, documenting conditions and evidence supporting identified weaknesses.
Validation with SOC
In an agreed Purple Team engagement, we compare performed actions with SOC telemetry, alerts and handling.
Recommendations and retesting
We prioritise findings and retest remediation effectiveness within the agreed scope.
Project deliverables
What will your team receive?
- A test plan and safe-execution rules.
- A confirmed-findings report with evidence and recommendations.
- Detection and response assessment for Purple Team scenarios.
- Results of the agreed retest.
Delivery conditions
What do we agree before starting?
- Clear authorisation and a list of in-scope systems.
- Operational contacts, stop conditions and agreed windows.
- Test access and approvals from relevant owners and providers.
How we work
From understanding the need to verifying the result.
Preparing the rules
We confirm authorisation, scope, scenarios and communication arrangements.
Testing and observation
We perform agreed checks, document results and cooperate with SOC on selected scenarios.
Reviewing and verifying fixes
We deliver the report, agree priorities and verify selected fixes where included.
Clear responsibilities
What is already included, and what do we extend?
Basic Enterprise vulnerability management covers known assets and an agreed assessment cycle. Penetration testing, Purple Team and in-depth validation are extensions. This does not remove SOC’s core responsibility to maintain and test selected detection and response mechanisms.
Before making a decision
Questions about penetration testing
Is a penetration test the same as a vulnerability scan?
No. Scanning helps identify potential weaknesses; testing provides agreed technical validation. The work plan defines methods and depth.
What is Purple Team?
The testing team works with SOC to compare simulated actions with detection and handling. The goal is practical assessment and improvement.
Does a good result establish complete security?
Results apply to specific scope, timing and methods. They do not guarantee the absence of all vulnerabilities or resilience against every attack scenario.
