OT and IoT security monitoring
In industrial environments, monitoring must respect operational processes and device limitations. We extend visibility to selected OT and IoT assets, agreeing methods with the people responsible for operating them safely.
Service scope
OT and IoT monitoring
We tailor the scope to the architecture, available observation points and device capabilities. We analyse communications, new connections and changes requiring investigation. We do not assume that standard agents can be installed or every device can be isolated automatically; data collection and response methods must be agreed.
Understand the environment
Together with the technology owner, we identify devices, critical areas and limits on permitted observation methods.
Telemetry collection
We select data sources appropriate to the architecture and device capabilities, accounting for the integration’s impact on the installation.
Communication analysis
We observe available connection information, identify new relationships and check whether they relate to planned work.
Escalation and response
We define the roles of SOC, automation and operations teams, and the actions that require a separate decision from the process owner each time.
Project deliverables
What will your team receive?
- Scope of devices, sources and observation points.
- Description of key dependencies and visibility limitations.
- Change detection scenarios and verification rules.
- Agreed escalation and permitted response procedure.
Delivery conditions
What do we agree before starting?
- Participation of the automation or operations and maintenance team.
- Architecture documentation and safe operating conditions for the installation.
- Approved access method and integration testing arrangements.
How we work
From understanding the need to verifying the result.
Agree constraints
We define critical processes, permitted data collection methods and the people authorised to approve actions.
Enable observation
We activate agreed sources and verify data interpretation with technology owners.
Tune monitoring
We establish the context of normal communication, escalation rules and how knowledge is updated after changes.
Clear responsibilities
What is already included, and what do we extend?
Standard SOC analyses agreed security sources and performs authorised response. The extension covers specialist OT/IoT integration and monitoring requiring separately selected methods and procedures; it does not automatically transfer responsibility for process control.
Before making a decision
Questions about OT and IoT monitoring
Must agents be installed on devices?
We do not assume this is required for every asset. The method is tailored to the environment’s capabilities; feasibility and coverage are confirmed during discovery.
Can SOC independently disconnect an industrial device?
Only if the action has been explicitly authorised and accounts for process safety conditions. Otherwise, the agreed decision and escalation path applies.
How is planned maintenance taken into account?
We agree how changes and maintenance windows are communicated. This allows new connections or behavioural changes to be assessed in the right context.
